Job Description: Regional Chapter Coordinator
Generation West Virginia is now hiring six Regional Chapter Coordinators to support the activities of our local Generation Chapters around the state. They will work with Chapter leadership and Generation West Virginia to coordinate the ins and outs of Chapter events and programs – designed for young people to connect, engage, and make a difference in their communities.
Generation West Virginia is the statewide organization dedicated to attracting, retaining, and advancing young talent in the Mountain State. It’s no news that we lose too many West Virginians to opportunities in other states, threatening the stability of our state’s tax base and our ability to attract new employers to the region. At Generation West Virginia, we’re working hard to reverse these trends by accelerating the creation of new jobs, strengthening quality of place, and sharing lessons learned with decision makers across sectors to inform state-level policies and programs.
Through our growing statewide network of Generation Chapters, we strive to provide young people with the skills and networks they need to enact the change they want to see in their communities. In the past two years, Generation Chapters have organized more than 200 events including roundtables with local decision makers, founding community co-working spaces, group running clubs, and completing community murals, just to name a few. Led by and for young people, the events and projects of each Chapter represent the next generation’s vision for West Virginia’s communities.
About this position:
Both the evaluator and the doer, Coordinators need to be able to both identify needs within their community and develop programs and events to help address those needs. And because Generation chapters are constantly growing and evolving, Coordinators will be asked to blend both their organizational, task-managing skills with their creative, open-minded, think-outside-of-the-box side. They will need to be strong communicators with a readiness to represent the organization and gain support for Chapter events in meetings with their peers, community leaders and/or elected officials.
Collaborating with local Chapter leadership and Generation WV Program Director, Bill Kuhn, to identify, organize, and execute initiatives that support the local Chapter and the mission of Generation West Virginia
Coordinating with Chapter leadership to plan, execute, and evaluate programs and activities of Generation Chapters, located within each Coordinator’s region
Promote local programming and mission through Chapter’s social media, web, and email communications
Serve as first point of contact for local Generation Chapters in engaging interested young people, new volunteers and local partner organizations
Lead outreach efforts to expand local involvement and attendance
The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate, first and foremost, believes in West Virginia and enjoys envisioning the exciting potential of this place. The candidate will have a proven ability to coordinate across diverse stakeholders to get things done. He or she will be committed to inclusiveness, creativity, and action. We’re looking for candidates who understand the issues currently facing West Virginia’s communities and are excited to be a part of the solutions.
Regional Chapter Coordinators will be paid $500 per month to support Chapter activities, which we expect to take 10 hours per week. All positions will begin fall of 2017.
