Job Summary
The Associate Director/Director of Development of University Initiatives resides in the Provost Office and Honors College and is responsible for identifying, building relationships and advancing gifts in support of provost office initiatives. The role focuses at the major gift level ($50,000+ up), with a portfolio of assigned prospects.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Execute qualifying discussions to define philanthropic aspirations of individuals, corporations, and foundations identified by the WVU Foundation Prospect Discovery and Strategy program.
- Manage a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects to support University initiatives and the Honors College. This includes working with the WVU Foundation, through qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Plan, schedule, and complete travel, mostly regional with some overnight, to contact prospects and donors in completion of portfolio/pipeline management.
- Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of the University and Honors College, including mission, history, and current fundraising priorities assuring effective representation of all opportunities and priorities for private support.
- Build and manage a network of relationships with prospective donors involving University and Honors College leadership, faculty and volunteers. Facilitate and coordinate communication with these prospects and among the prospect’s campus relationships.
- Partner with Central Fundraising units including Corporate and Foundation Relations, Regional Development, Principal Gifts, and Senior Leadership to advance appropriate philanthropic priorities.
- Coordinate with the Foundation’s Donor Relations program to develop and execute personalized stewardship plans for select donors and prospects as agreed upon at the Provost level and Honors College..
- Provide assistance for on campus events where prospects and donors are the primary audience including but not limited to donor/prospect site visits, Career Fairs (alumni and corporate partner hosting), Homecoming, development related activities around WVU sporting and Honors events from University and Foundation resources.
- Coordinate with the Foundation’s Annual Giving program to prepare materials for the RNL synergy plan, Day of Giving and annual giving level projects.
- Work with Honors College student groups/project teams to identify funding opportunities and guide them through the annual giving/crowdfunding process.
- For appropriate nominees, coordinate the nomination process for various recognitions, such as the Order of Vandalia, Academy of Distinguished Alumni, Departmental Academies, Honorary Degree, Mountaineer Week Most Loyals, Homecoming Awards, among others.
- Comply with all WVU Foundation reporting and accountability standards and coordinate development efforts with University Units development staff as needed.
- Complete additional assignments as may be required by the supervisor, other Foundation senior management or the Provost or Honors College Dean as appropriate.
Qualifications
Education, Experience and Competencies:
- Education and/or Experience
- Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree. A minimum of 3 years for Associate Director, and 5 years for Director, of direct and progressively responsible experience in fundraising or related experience.
- Computer Skills
- Proficiency in computer and internet usage is necessary. Ability to accurately enter data into a database and recall information through reports is necessary.
- Physical Demands
- Air travel may be required. A valid driver’s license is required.
