The Business Coach is a full-time, salaried, position that will be part of a team that helps businesses and organizations grow by providing coaching and connections. The Business Coach will lead the Mon Forest Business Initiative, a program focused on supporting small business development in the Mon Forest Region of WV through asset-based business development linking to a regional strategy for developing recreational economies in gateway communities across the region. This position will report to the Deputy Director of Woodlands Community Lenders, Inc. (WCL). The position is hybrid, requiring some regular hours of work each month in the office in Elkins, West Virginia.

Essential Duties: 

  • Effectively provide coaching to entrepreneurs in areas such as preparing a business plan, marketing, bookkeeping, understanding the lending process, and more;
  • Continually building expertise in basic coaching methods across disciplines to provide a uniformly positive experience to our small business owners; 
  • Continually build expertise in subject matters that are most frequently required by entrepreneurs to expand services offered in-house; 
  • Manage a list of recommended external service partners that extend our coaching expertise, while continually evaluating the quality of the services provided by each partner;
  • Collaborate with Mon Forest Towns Partnership and other partners to develop and deploy programming across the region;
  • Connect businesses with qualified, third-party technical assistance (TA) in alignment with current guidelines and objectives;
  • Work with WCL Staff to allocate, monitor and manage third-party TA funding.
  • Collaborate with Mon Forest Towns Partnership to develop a regional business network and expand its scope of services; 
  • Gain proficiency in the technology used to provide efficient and responsive coaching services while maintaining personal relationships with those we serve; 
  • Diligently capture data using systems provided to support performance reporting and continuous improvement; 
  • Work to populate a new small business portal with resources including service providers, buyers, suppliers, etc.;
  • Manage and lead coaching-related events and workshops.

Qualifications

  • Genuine interest in the mission of Woodlands Community Lenders; 
  • Bachelor’s degree;  
  • Willingness & ability to travel extensively within the region;
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills and attention to detail; 
  • Able to plan and meet established deadlines, manage a budget, and juggle multiple clients at the same time;
  • Must be able to communicate and maintain good relationships with diverse audiences;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and partners in a hybrid environment.

Preferred

  • Experience running a small business; 
  • Experience coaching or teaching one-on-one and in group settings; 
  • Experience using technology to provide content, performance data capture, and impact reporting;  
  • Continually seeks opportunities to improve personal skills and end-to-end processes.

Compensation

  • $50,000 salary includes health insurance and retirement benefits, generous holiday and paid time off benefit, flexible work schedule.
