Location: Remote with occasional travel; mileage reimbursed at the current GSA rate for trips >40 miles from residence

Hope in Action Alliance, Inc. (HIAA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is dedicated to strengthening communities across Appalachia. Founded in West Virginia, HIAA serves communities connected by Appalachian culture, history, and shared systems of care.

Our team strengthens collaboration by bridging advanced systems with grassroots, community-driven efforts. We build networks of support, grow effective initiatives, and help scale successful programs from one community to another.

Position Overview

The Collaboration Specialist coordinates and facilitates bimonthly meetings with cross-sector, cross-regional professionals, using SAMHSA’s best-practice coalition-building model. This role maintains and nurtures relationships with key stakeholders, expands collaborative engagement, and manages communications via social media, website, and email. The specialist also plans and executes the annual wellness summit, ensures program metrics are met, and prepares quarterly progress reports.

This position will also support funding efforts by identifying grant opportunities, assisting with contract solicitations, and promoting the organization’s initiatives to partners and stakeholders. While currently part-time and temporary, the role is expected to grow and evolve alongside the expansion of the collaborative.

Key Responsibilities

Collaboration and Facilitation

• Coordinate and facilitate bimonthly meetings with cross-sector and cross-regional professionals.
• Apply SAMHSA’s coalition-building best practices to engage sectors in various communities.
• Serve as a liaison among stakeholders to ensure clear communication, follow-up, and alignment across initiatives.

Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management

• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the service area.
• Identify opportunities to expand engagement and strengthen collaborative networks.
• Actively participate in cross-sector initiatives to promote ongoing partnership and resource sharing.

Communications and Outreach

• Manage organizational communications, including social media content, website updates, and email outreach.
• Develop messaging and materials to promote initiatives, programs, and events to stakeholders and partners.
• Track engagement and adjust communications strategies to maximize reach and impact.

Event Coordination

• Plan and execute an annual wellness summit, coordinating logistics, participants, and follow-up.

Funding Support

• Identify potential grant opportunities and funding sources.
• Assist with contract solicitations, proposals, and supporting documentation.

Monitoring and Reporting

• Ensure program metrics and performance indicators are met.
• Collect data, track outcomes, and compile quarterly progress reports for leadership and funders.
• Provide insights and recommendations to strengthen collaborative effectiveness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services, social sciences, or a related field required.
• Experience facilitating meetings and coordinating multi-stakeholder initiatives.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and networking skills.
• Experience with grant writing, contract support, or fundraising preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently.
• Familiarity with SAMHSA coalition-building models or similar public health frameworks preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, and basic social media management.

Work Schedule & Travel

• Tuesday–Thursday, 8:30 AM–12:30 PM (schedule may vary; flex time offered).
• Remote position with occasional travel required; candidates must reside within the service area, including Athens and Washington counties in Ohio, and Calhoun, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wirt, and Wood counties in West Virginia.

*Hope in Action Alliance, Inc. is the fiscal and operational incubator for the regional collaborative for a period of one year, with the option to extend upon mutual agreement. In this role, Hope in Action will not replace or assume responsibilities of any existing advisory board or steering committee. Instead, we will strengthen the current structure by serving as a liaison between collaborative leadership and a newly hired collaboration specialist, ensuring alignment, accountability, and progress. Please note that the collaboration specialist will adhere to all personnel and operational policies and procedures established by Hope in Action.
