Director of Employer Relations  – Generation West Virginia

Generation West Virginia is looking for a Director of Employer Relations (DER). The Director of Employer Relations  will primarily oversee Generation WV’s career services work. This includes managing all Employer partnerships and outreach, managing the Career Connector online platform, forming relationships with job seekers throughout the state, hiring managers at companies throughout the state, and related state and local agencies. The DER will collaborate closely with GWV program directors to effectively connect young job seekers to job opportunities across a variety of industries throughout the state.

This position can be done remotely, anywhere in West Virginia.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Director of Employer Relations will:

  • Cultivate relationships throughout WV in order to expand visibility of the Career Connector. This will include formulating a sales pitch and reaching out to employers, and taking a proactive approach to grow employer partnerships.
  • Manage the logistics of Career Connector platform, including posting and removing jobs, updating information, and expanding digital informational resources available to employers and candidates. in the CRM platform using SalesForce.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for job seekers wanting to stay in or move to WV.
  • Recruit and screen candidates for jobs posted via the Career Connector, including working with individual employers to understand their hiring needs, promoting job openings, and actively seeking qualified candidates through a variety of channels such as LinkedIn.
  • Coach job seekers in West Virginia, including resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, and other career development services.
  • Manage promotion, maintenance, and review of the Resume Bank.
  • Work to understand the needs of job seekers in WV and communicate those in a way that informs GWV programs and initiatives.
  • Work with NewForce Director to support and grow tech employer relationships.
  • Work with the Communications and Outreach Manager to develop candidate recruitment and communications strategies.
  • Collaborate with Fellowship Director on supporting program curriculum and participants’ career development.

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in recruitment, and/or external relations.
  • Experience in outreach and/or sales  preferred.
  • Experience in advising, counseling, or coaching preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Public speaking experience
  • CRM (Customer Relationship Management) database experience, particularly in Salesforce, is preferred.

  • Data-driven: You utilize research, including workforce trends and organizational metrics, to inform your outreach and engagement.  You use the latest thinking, technology, and practices to advance the organization’s and program’s visibility and effectiveness.
  • Organized: You can manage multiple projects, prioritizing appropriately to support the organization and your team. You create clear systems and processes to manage workflows.
  • Collaborative: You understand that the best way to make our organization and programs successful is by working collaboratively with team members across the organization.
  • Forward-thinking: You care about and believe in West Virginia. You are honest about the challenges we face, but you know a future that reaches beyond “we’ve always done it this way” or “it’s good enough” is not only possible, but already happening.

Salary, Benefits and Where You’ll Work

The starting salary for this role is $50,000 – $55,000. GWV provides a great benefits package including, but not limited to, 100% of dental, vision, and health insurance, paid maternity/paternity/adoption leave, and three weeks of paid time off. As a statewide organization, we have staff located all across the state, and our day-to-day operations run remotely. While access to all areas of the state is important, this position can be done remotely, anywhere in West Virginia. Travel for this position will be required, and mileage reimbursement is available.
