The successful candidate will be a results-driven Controller capable of management and improvement of financial performance and direction of accounting operations, as well as managing day to day transactions with minimal additional support. Candidate must live within Solar Holler’s service area of WV, southern OH, eastern KY or southern VA.

Duties for the Controller will include managing accounting records, ensuring compliance with GAAP and tax regulations, publishing financial statements, engaging in day to day accounting operations, analyzing financial data, monitoring expenditure, coordinating annual review processes, and ensuring accuracy of financial information.

Additional duties may include, AR/billing oversight, aiding our organization in maintaining positive revenue and financial growth, implementing proper internal controls, achieving organizational targets, and working with the management team to help develop financial plans that support organizational strategy.

The Controller will develop processes to streamline accounting functions and operations, provide financial analysis and reports, train staff on business finance issues and promote regulatory, tax and GAAP compliance.

Controller Responsibilities:
  • Engage and manage day to day financial transactions such as AR/AP and Payroll
  • Prepare financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis (PnL, BS and CF)
  • Create and manage weekly cash flow by tracking transactions and regularly reviewing internal reports.
  • Coordinate with VP of Finance on financial and operating benchmarks on weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Oversee month end close process to drive efficiency in decision making process of leadership team.
  • Manage and track deferred revenues, unbilled revenues and work in progress (WIP) schedules
  • Monitor internal controls and oversee corporate credit card and travel programs.
  • Participate in budgeting processes and breakeven analysis taking into account seasonality of operations.
  • Build and manage three statement financial models that include roll-ups and various financing structures.
  • Assist leadership team with maximizing income generation and cost reduction strategies.
  • Streamline accounting functions and operations by maximizing financial systems.
  • Coordinate annual review process with external auditors to ensure proper compliance.
  • Coordinate with VP of Finance on board and investor related presentations.
  • Coordinate with lenders on line of credit requirements and debt/reporting covenants

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • High attention to detail
  • Proven experience in finance management, including complex inventory, A/R, and A/P structures.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership and collaboration qualities
  • Sound knowledge of accounting fundamentals such as GAAP
  • Proficiency in accounting software, particularly QuickBooks
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Five or more years of experience in accounting and financial management
  • 3-5 years in a leadership capacity

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • MBA and/or CPA
  • Demonstrated experience in renewable energy project financing, real estate finance structuring, construction or manufacturing industry.
