Qualifications:

Marshall University’s Advanced Manufacturing Center (MAMC) is accepting resumes for a Makerspace / STEAM Outreach Coordinator. MAMC proudly serves more than 300 companies per year, from startups to the largest manufacturers from defense contractors to local inventors, with product development, workforce training, applied engineering, quality systems implementation, and supply chain support. The full-time position is located at MAMC’s 4th Avenue Huntington, WV location. MAMC’s community and campus makerspace, known as the Maker Vault, has proudly served the Tri-State region for more than 10 years. The “Vault” provides the region with a space to innovate, invent, and transform ideas to prototypes and products. This position will lead this maker space’s continued growth and development.

Required Qualifications:  A bachelor’s degree or an associate’s degree in relevant field. Two years’ experience in a related field.  Excellent managerial and organizational skills. Experience coordinating and sustaining an innovative and creative environment. Solid project management and communication skills are a must.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to cultivate and build partnerships.
  • Experience maintaining and programming makerspace level 3D-printing equipment.
  • Entrepreneurial, non-profit and/or grants management/writing experiences.
  • CAD/CAM software knowledge.
  • Engineering or manufacturing background.
  • Prior makerspace or incubator experience.
Duties:The Makerspace / STEAM Outreach Coordinator will:

  • Understand techniques, software, tools, and machinery used in a maker environment (3D printers, tabletop CNC routers, etc.)
  • Create programs that allow individuals to experiment, invent, and learn new skillsets.
  • Exhibit an entrepreneurial and civic-minded spirit.
  • Have exceptional communication and collaborative skills.
  • Possess the ability to learn new techniques.
  • Support existing STEAM summer camp programming, and competitive robotics and drones.
  • Seek new partners and contribute to grant-development and reporting.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Coordinate all makerspace activities including the annual West Virginia Makes Festival and STEAM camps for youth
  2. Recruit makers/inventors/students to Makerspace
  3. Assist with prototyping and research projects
  4. Engage in external speaking activities and lead public demonstrations
  5. Develop and support monthly public workshops and open houses
  6. Establish partnerships with students and faculty at Marshall University, other regional institutions of higher education, K-12 schools, clubs and civic groups.
  7. Be willing to work some non-traditional hours throughout the week to make the makerspace more accessible with extended hours of operation (plans for this schedule will be developed collaboratively with management)
