Employee will be assigned to the WVDEP’s Public Information Office and, under general supervision, will serve as a Digital Content Specialist for the agency. This position requires a creative multimedia professional skilled in video production, storytelling, and social media content management. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex environmental topics into engaging content.
Job Duties:
- Manage WVDEP’s social media platforms and create and optimize multimedia content for those accounts and the WVDEP website
- Utilize content management, analytics, and Search-Engine Optimization to develop and implement social media campaigns and marketing/advertising strategies for WVDEP divisions and offices.
- Produce and edit high-quality video content, graphics, and digital media for the agency, using Adobe Creative Cloud tools (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Audition, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Assist with outreach events, education programs, training videos, and content for WVDEP’s YouTube Channel “Environment Matters.”
- Conduct interviews and gather news to write, edit, and publish compelling stories on environmental initiatives, ensuring clarity for a general audience.
- Represent the agency in public roles, including on-camera presentations and event coverage.
- Other duties as assigned.
Ideal candidate expectations:
- Must provide digital media samples (video, photography, graphics, blogs, podcasts, etc.).
- Experience with Sony PRO gear preferred; other professional camera systems acceptable.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud preferred; experience with other video editing platforms (Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, etc.) acceptable.
- Strong storytelling and communication skills required.
- On-camera experience, voiceover work, and interview skills are a plus.
- Background in science (biology, chemistry, physics, geology) beneficial but not required.
- Highly organized, independent worker with strong project management skills.
- Additional skills in graphic design, photography, public speaking, live streaming, and social media strategy are a plus.

- Regular attendance is an essential part of this position.

Minimum Qualifications
- Training: Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited four year college or university with a major in communications, fine arts, journalism, graphic design, marketing, public relations, English or related field.
- Substitution: Full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in a field of public information dissemination may substitute for above training on a year-for-year basis.
- Experience: One year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in a public information dissemination field.
