Job Posting: Upper Elementary Montessori Lead Guide

The Mountain Laurel Learning Cooperative (MLLC), located in Tucker County, WV, in the vibrant community of Thomas, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Lead Guide for our Upper Elementary classroom (ages 9-12). The Classroom Guide will create a prepared Montessori classroom environment and prepare lessons based on student needs and interests following North American Montessori Center’s curriculum guidance and an established three-year cycle outline.

The ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, families and staff while maintaining high levels of confidentiality is vital to our success. Navigating a dynamic classroom in a calm and respectful manner is expected. Professional development and Montessori training will be required. Joining our team offers an opportunity to learn directly from an experienced Lead Guide in a mentor/mentee capacity, giving you the rare opportunity to develop, practice, and refine your newly learned skills in a safe and nurturing environment. Work alongside our Mentor Guide for the remainder of the program year and begin a classroom on your own the following year.

Hours:

Total of 37-40 hours per week (September through May). Approximately 20 hours per week mid-August to September and May to early June. 32 hours/week are expected to be spent in the classroom while school is in session. Planning and preparation time is flexible.

Location: MLLC Learning Center, 45 Douglas Road, Thomas, WV

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:

• High school diploma plus 4+ years work experience.
• Commitment to complete Montessori Guide certification.
• Successfully pass a background check.
• CPR & First Aid Certification
• Acquire and maintain WV STARS Professional Pathway Certification
• Complete 15 hours professional development each year

Preferred Qualifications:

• Montessori training and classroom work experience. OR
• Bachelor’s Degree plus work experience or its equivalent. OR
• Demonstrated success in the workplace in related roles with increasing responsibilities.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work in a classroom setting including ability to kneel, squat, and move during interactions with children.
• Ability to climb and descend flights of stairs multiple times a day.
• Ability to walk outside daily during all weather conditions.

Compensation: $16-$20/hour depending on experience.
