Stepping Stones

Reports to: Operations Coordinator 

Classification: Non-exempt  

Position Summary: 

The Growing Hope Team Leader will oversee the production-related and maintenance aspects of Stepping Stones  Greenhouse, raised beds, gardens, flower beds, grounds, property, and other designated areas. The Growing Hope Team  Leader (Team Leader) is responsible for managing the land, greenhouse, towers, raised beds, property, etc. for  efficiency, land health, productivity, cleanliness, organization, safety, and other designated areas. The Team Leader will  also oversee and document both work and training hours for Growing Hope employees, students, clients, interns, and  volunteers in food production, grounds maintenance and improvement, maintenance, cleanliness, organization, and  other necessary areas on-site, off-site at markets and planned activities. The Team Leader will work with project  partners in non-profit farm production planning, marketing, selling, and giving back to the community. The Team Leader  will be responsible for monitoring all grant and designated outcomes, timely data collection and reporting requirements.  The Team Leader is responsible for coordinating the education programming for employees, students, clients,  volunteers, and interns. The Team Leader will also coordinate programing with Growing Hope community partners,  Stepping Stones staff and volunteer partners and service providers to continually improve upon, implement and achieve  the mission and targeted outcomes of Stepping Stones and the Growing Hope Program.  

Essential Functions: 

  • Create and maintain Tower Operational Plan (PH levels, gravity feed water, nutrients, supplies, scheduled  cleaning, maintenance, production plan, harvesting, packaging, marketing, and selling, etc.)
  • Create a program supply budget for consideration and approval. 
  • Order supplies, seeds, nutrients, clips, rock wool, seedlings, necessary tools to operate the farm, greenhouse, and towers. 
  • Work with partners and food access programming to plan farm production based on customer needs. Develop  production plan. 
  • Oversee and assist the production crew in seeding, maintenance, harvesting, washing, packing of food grown on  the property, good handling practices etc. 
  • Maintain and enforce the record keeping required for food safety. 
  • Adjust and enhance programming as needed. 
  • Work with project partners to assemble and training curriculum and schedule courses. 
  • Work with project team to develop evaluation procedures. 
  • Coordinate and schedule training workshops with project partners and educational service providers.
  • Work with Operations Coordinator and Assistance Director to address issues and conflicts that arise.

Work Environment: 

In the nature of being at a residential living environment there may be times you experience conditions  in which challenging behavior can be exhibited from our youth to include but not limited to, physical  agitation, physical violence and/or emotion outburst. 

  • Possible outdoor conditions while supporting participants. 
  • Working conditions outdoors will be dirty and subject to weather conditions.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: 

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are set at employment. 

Travel 

Travel is primarily local during the business day. 

Required Education and Experience 

  • Educational requirements: GED or equivalent. 
  • Prefer hydroponic or aeroponic experience but not required. 
  • Ability to enter information on spreadsheets or data collection forms. 
  • Experience managing employees or volunteers preferred but not required.
  • Willingness to work hard.

Job Types: Full-time 

Pay: $14 – $16.00 per hour depending on experience, education, and qualifications
