Born in Huntington, WV, and raised in Grayson, KY, Barry Griffith graduated Magna Cum Laude from Morehead State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Computer Information Systems. After college, he gained hands-on experience flipping houses, working in plumbing, electrical, roofing, drywalling, flooring, and appliance installation. Looking to transition into tech, Barry joined Cohort 3 of NewForce, where he trained as a full-stack web developer. That experience led to a role as a Programmer/Developer at the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, where he contributed to key development projects. In 2023, Barry came full circle, returning to NewForce as an instructor to help others grow their skills and launch life-changing careers in technology.
As a NewForce Instructor, Barry trains students in full-stack web development and data analytics, teaching JavaScript, React, SQL, C#, ASP.NET, Bootstrap, Excel, Power BI, Tableau, and Python. He also leads the Level Up program, providing advanced SQL training for NewForce alumni.
For Barry, the most fulfilling part of his work is helping people grow and guiding them toward life-changing careers. Seeing students gain confidence, develop new skills, and step into roles that transform their futures is incredibly rewarding. Knowing that he plays a small part in helping someone achieve their goals and build a better life is what drives him every day.
Outside of work, Barry enjoys reading, hiking, and watching horror movies. He also loves playing video games with friends as a way to relax and stay connected. Whether he’s out on the trails, getting lost in a good book, or diving into a co-op game, he values a balance of activity, creativity, and social connection in his free time.
