What you’ll do

The Communications and Digital Media Specialist is responsible for marketing, communications, design, and the use of social media vehicles. This position collaborates with various Mountaineer Food Bank departments to ensure consistent messaging and supports the organization’s goals through strategic storytelling and content creation. This is an ideal job for a personable, mission driven, tech savvy, energetic and professional individual.

Here are examples of what you’ll be doing everyday: 

  • Create, schedule, and publish engaging content across social media platforms to raise awareness about hunger, promote programs, and highlight community impact.
  • Create communications materials such as flyers, brochures, and event collateral.
  • Draft press releases, pitch stories to local media outlets, and coordinate interviews related to food distributions, fundraising events, and advocacy initiatives.
  • Work with program, volunteer, and development teams to gather information and translate it into compelling digital content.
  • Support donor communications and stewardship efforts through clear, mission-focused messaging.

The salary range is $45,000-$55,000 based on experience plus a generous benefit package including 100% employer paid health, vision, dental, and life insurance for the employee. This position also includes 11 paid holidays, generous paid time off, and a 401k option. Job Description Title: Communications and Digital Media Specialist

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Position Status (FT, PT, etc.): Full-Time

General Workday/Week: Monday – Friday 7:00-5:00 (38-45 hours); flexes between 4-5 day/week

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree. Recommended 2-4 years communications and/or marketing experience. Must have a valid West Virginia driver’s license.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Marketing & Design

  • Help keep all branding and messaging consistent across all platforms.
  • Work with appropriate personnel to help conceptualize, develop, and produce marketing materials, including newsletters, annual appeals, website banners, mobile distributions, digital content, fact cards, posters, flyers, digital and print ads, truck wraps, event marketing campaigns, and annual report.
  • Ensure all documents, posters, graphics, truck wraps etc. uphold Mountaineer Food Bank brand guidelines.
  • Keep an organized portfolio of photos for all staff, media etc. to use when needed. Can use Feeding America photos, newsletter photos, photos taken by staff etc.

2. Website

  • Keep all information current, including program descriptions, financial documents, and information (update numbers 2x per year to reflect either fiscal or calendar year stats).
  • Add fundraising events and mobile/fresh pantries to the event calendar.
  • Update find a food pantry regularly- consult with agency relations department 2-3x a year to keep it up to date.
  • Upload newsletters, news stories and blogs.

3. Social Media –all social media accounts below are included but not limited to:

  • Develop, create, and post content to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter
    • Including grants & sponsorship requirements for social media posts
  • Create Facebook events for mobile/ fresh pantry etc.
  • Create Facebook events for all Mountaineer Food Bank fundraising events.
  • Respond to Facebook and Instagram messages in a timely manner to answer questions, give pantry information, event information etc.
  • Engage with content on all platforms to increase Mountaineer Food Bank’s engagement (like other pages, their photos, reply to comments, thank commenters, etc.).
  • Develop social media “pulse report” for each board meeting – include number of followers, donations from Facebook, upcoming events etc.
  • Collaborate with staff on donor stewardship, acknowledgment, recognition, messaging to keep our messaging from one voice.
  • Create all content campaigns and videos that align with Mountaineer Food Bank’s mission, match all mail pieces, and tell the Mountaineer Food Bank story.
  • Assist in completion of end-to-end digital projects.
  • Manage the production and/or produce videos and photographs for use across all media channels.
  • Work to improve our brand presence and boost brand awareness.
  • Stay up to date with digital media developments.

4. Flexible expectations in meeting a variety of responsibilities throughout the day to ensure the success of Mountaineer Food Bank.

Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, PR/Communications, Journalism or a related field.

Skills:

  • Superior Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills
  • Strong editing skills
  • Basic design and layout experience (Adobe, Publisher, Canva etc.)
  • Strong personnel management techniques and experience
  • Ability to keep records and organization
  • Excellent communication skills to professionally represent the Mountaineer Food Bank

Physical, Mental, & Environmental Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Work in an office setting either remotely or at MFB with frequent travel to other locations in MFB’s footprint.
  • Sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and use hands, arms, and legs for dexterity, balance and climbing stairs.
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to operate office equipment and machines and recognize safety hazards in the workplace.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and balance objects weighing up to twenty-five pounds.
  • Must be able to hear, see, read, and communicate verbally and in writing frequently with a wide range of people from divergent socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and origins.
  • Demonstrate a professional demeanor in interactions with all MFB staff, agencies, donors, government officials and the public.
    • Keep informed and consistently practice the policies and procedures of MFB regarding compliance.
    • Possess knowledge of MFB and all programs.

This position is full-time salaried with benefits (health, life, dental, vision, PTO, paid holidays and 401k option). Full-time salaried positions work an average of 38-45 hours per week.
