About Us

At Spark! Imagination and Science Center, we believe that every child deserves a place to wonder, explore, and create. We’re a nonprofit children’s museum in Morgantown, WV, where kids (especially those 10 and under) and their grown-ups can play, discover science and the arts, and build memories together. Our hands-on exhibits and programs — from STEAM field trips to community events — are designed to spark a lifelong love of learning.

We also proudly participate in Museums for All, offering free admission to families with WIC or EBT, because access matters.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for our next Executive Director — someone who’s excited to shape what’s next for Spark! and lead with heart, creativity, and purpose. You’ll manage a passionate team, partner with our board, and be at the forefront of bringing playful learning to life for thousands of kids and families each year.

You don’t have to know everything on day one. We’re more interested in your vision, values, and drive than a perfect resume. If you care about kids, community, and building something that matters — this might be your place.

What You’ll Do

💡 Lead with Vision

• Work with the Board of Directors to set and carry out a clear, exciting strategic plan
• Ensure that everything we do stays true to our mission and values
• Join board committees as an ex-officio member and help guide decision-making

💰 Fundraising & Partnerships

• Write grants, connect with donors, and build relationships that support Spark!’s sustainability
• Collaborate on fundraising events and campaigns
• Seek out sponsorships and partnerships that benefit the museum and the community

📣 Connect & Communicate

• Help Spark! stay visible through social media, press, and community outreach
• Build strong ties with other museums, nonprofits, and local businesses to further our mission

🎨 Programs & Exhibits

• Work closely with the Education Coordinator to create programs and outreach that are fun, meaningful, and rooted in the needs of our community
• Support the development and maintenance of interactive, engaging exhibits

👥 People & Operations

• Inspire and manage a small team of staff and volunteers
• Oversee budgeting, finances, vendor relationships, and compliance with the support of the Operations Coordinator and Board Treasurer
• Help make sure Spark! is a safe, welcoming space for everyone who walks through our doors

Who We’re Looking For

You don’t need to check every box — if this work excites you and you bring relevant experience, we hope you’ll apply.

You might be a great fit if you:

• Have a bachelor’s degree; an advanced degree is a plus
• Bring 5+ years of experience in nonprofit leadership, development, or program management
• Have raised funds or written grants before — or are excited to learn
• Communicate well, listen deeply, and enjoy working with people
• Are organized, resourceful, flexible, and energized by challenges
• Have experience in education, museums, or community-based programs
