POSITION SUMMARY
The HR Business Partner functions as a strategic liaison between HR and the business. The HR Business Partner will partner with leaders on employee and labor relations, provide HR guidance throughout the employee lifecycle, resolve grievances, conduct investigations, analyze metrics, and provide HR Generalist support for the HR team. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, to resolve workplace conflicts, provide guidance on policies and procedures, and provide guidance on labor-related matters. Additionally, this position is responsible for the Union Bidding and Bumping Process, supporting HR training initiatives, and maintaining positive relationships with Union Leadership.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with leaders to promote positive employee relations, including conflict resolution, mediation, and fostering a culture of open communication.
- Provide guidance on employee disciplinary actions, investigations, and grievances in accordance with company policies and legal requirements. Prepare associated documents as appropriate.
- Respond to employee inquiries and provide guidance to employees on company policies.
- Support the negotiation and administration of collective bargaining agreements, ensuring compliance with union contracts and labor laws.
- Provide guidance and training to managers and supervisors on employee relations best practices, labor laws, and company policies.
- Conduct investigations into allegations of discrimination, harassment, or other violations of company policies or applicable laws, and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Collect and analyze employee and labor relations data/trends to identify areas for improvement.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on matters related to employee and labor relations.
- Manage the Union bidding process, ensuring fairness and compliance with policies and contractual obligations.
- Partners with leadership on organizational design, restructuring and workforce planning.
- Manage the offboarding process for voluntary separations and retirements.
- Support HR training initiatives by developing materials, conducting training sessions, and providing guidance on employee relations topics.
- Support the HR team on various projects as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong investigation and documentation skills with close attention to detail.
- Broad knowledge of Human Resources and the employee life-cycle.
- Detailed understanding of employee and labor relations.
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, industrial relations, or related field is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in human resources, labor relations, employee relations, grievance procedures, and dispute resolution or related field is required.
- SHRM-CP and/or PHR is preferred.

WORK CONTEXT
- Minimum travel for work-related purposes is expected 20% which includes some overnight visits to locations and industry events.
- This is a full-time exempt salaried position.
