Glenville State

Fairmont State, Glenville State, and several regional partners are building a regional collaborative to improve the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce pipeline in North Central West Virginia.  This initiative will be funded in part through an Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) POWER Grant, with the goal of building an industry-education network and facilitating projects to increase job awareness and preparedness among students and jobseekers.

Job Type: Full-time, 3-yearTemporary, Grant-Funded
Shift Schedule: Monday – Friday; Weekends and evenings as needed.
Travel: This position will require frequent travel.

Examples of Duties

This individual’s main role will be to work on a regional career services approach as part of the core executive team for the ARC POWER Implementation grant coordinate workforce and economic development at Glenville State University. The key roles and responsibilities are outlined in greater detail below.

  • Partner with academic leaders to innovate and create programs, such as micro-credentials and competency – based offerings, to meet the state’s workforce needs outside of traditional program and course offerings.
  • Create and maintain an institutional database of regional STEM industries, industry contact information and their current employment opportunities that align with O*NET.
  • Provide support and training for industrial interns and employees. Such training will include, but not be limited to, AWS, CompTIA, and Google certifications.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with WV state and business leaders, and with key agencies through extensive and intentional outreach.
  • Build strong relationships with academic units to understand academic offerings, research expertise, applied learning opportunities, and other aspects of the institution so that opportunities can be identified to help the region’s industry fill their workforce needs.
  • Continue to advance relationships with K-12 and youth – serving organizations to create meaningful initiatives and pipelines into STEM careers
  • Coordinate with the Career Counselor to ensure STEM employment and training opportunities are communicated to STEM students and the surrounding region.
  • Be a member of the Core Executive Team for the project, carrying out additional duties as needed.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two to four (2-4) years experience in higher education, economic and workforce development, or STEM industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with first – generation, rural, and/or under represented college students.
  • Experience with STEM/STEM students.
  • Experience with databases.
  • Experience outreaching to and building connections with entities such as higher education institutions, industry, and the K-12 sector.
  • Familiarity with the socioeconomic needs of the region.
  • Ability to be self-sufficient.
  • Exceptional organization and oral and written communication skills.
  • Creative problem solving skills.

Retirement Plan: The college matches your 6 percent contribution (tax exempt dollars) towards TIAA/CREF or Teacher’s Retirement System. Thus, 12 percent of your gross salary is working for your retirement income. New employees must join TIAA/CREF.

TIAA Total Disability Benefits Plan: Optional employees coverage that provides (1) monthly income and (2) payments of premiums to your TIAA/CREF retirement plan to participating employees who suffer total, long-term disabilities. The cost is adjusted according to individual salary on a yearly basis. Employees become eligible upon completion of the first year of employment.
