POSITION SUMMARY 

Responsible for installation, maintenance and coordination with external resource of the Centers technical systems including computers, the Caperton Planetarium & Theater (CPT) system, and  museum’s PCs and AV equipment. Occasional operation of the planetarium is required due to  scheduling conflicts and technical needs.  

Essential Functions Statement(s) 

PC & Network Support 

  1. Act as primary liaison with external consultant (EC) to monitor all system functions and  relay/track ongoing challenges and failures. 
  2. Provide technical support to all staff with computers, printers and peripherals.  3. Work closely with EC to perform physical tasks required for maintenance, upkeep and  modification of the systems. 
  3. Maintain effective inventory of network and computer spare parts to facilitate rapid  recovery in system failures. 
  4. Facilitate access and usage of system with third party providers such as network printers,  internet access for tenants, etc. 

CPT – Evans & Sutherland Systems (E&S) 

  1. Receive continued technical training on the DigiStar7 Projection system (D7) and  remain up to date on all new technical developments and potential problems.
  2. Maintain the setup of all theater components including racks (D7, Lighting, and  Sound System), projectors, cablings, communication devices, etc. in perfectly  organized state and in correspondence with well-kept and update documentation.
  3. Support E&S in the installation of any new equipment in the Theater and ensure  proper operation, organization and documentation. 
  4. Maintain a thorough log of all technical and performance issues related to the D7,  projectors, sound system, lighting system and relay any emerging issues to related  third party providers such as E&S. 
  5. Train CPT staff on proper handling of all systems. 
  6. Provide occasional show operation and special presentation delivery requiring  additional projection and sound components. 

Avampato Discovery Museum 

  1. Support exhibit staff to install, maintain and optimize computer, AV and technology based exhibits when needed. 
  2. Work with education staff to check all technology-based exhibits weekly to ensure  they’re in proper working order.  

Theater and Events 

  1. Support production and technical staff as needed with performances in MFPH.  2. Provide technical support for performance rentals including lighting, sound, and  wireless access back of house and for the merch seller.  
  2. Provide and coordinate IT needs with Clay and rental events in the center. Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES 

Education: College or technical school preferred. 

Experience: Experience in relevant field but not necessarily related exactly to the specific task  of this position. 

Computer Skills: Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
