Fellow Spotlight: Brandon Kyle Cordle

Brandon grew up in Cabell County, more specifically the Milton-Ona-Barboursville-Huntington region, where he attended Cabell Midland High School and then later graduated from Marshall University in 2018 where he studied Graphic Design, Marketing and Business. He is now enrolled in the MBA program, anticipating completion in Summer 2027. Brandon’s connection to this area and to Marshall University has allowed him the opportunity to blend his expertise in technology, finance and design into a role that elevates aspiring leaders of tomorrow through higher education opportunities.

In 2026, Brandon stepped into a Senior Project Manager of Grant Administration and Financial Management position at Mountwest Community & Technical College, combining a passion for higher ed opportunities and enabling future leaders with a commitment to helping folks find their passion and learning the skills to achieve their goals.

The Work

Having a critical role in a smaller Community College, Brandon’s work goes beyond reconciling grants and financial management for the college. Brandon leads initiatives that help elevate the college in ways that enable the school to create a better learning experience for the students, while also focusing on improving the opportunities college can provide for students via both federal and state level grants.

Brandon’s role includes:

  • Managing a pipeline of over $10M+ between federal and state level grants
  • Working with college faculty, staff, deans, and the executive body to help drive the long-term financial goals of the school that ultimately benefit our students
  • Understanding allowable costs for grants, and working with school representatives to pay down the grants we are awarded to elevate our course offerings, trades programs, etc.

For Brandon, managing grants isn’t just strictly finances and accounting. It’s a tool to improve the community college landscape in southwestern West Virginia, create more resources for underserved communities in the Huntington region, and partner with Marshall University and other 4-year degree programs to give our students and the future leaders of our communities the availability of opportunity they deserve.

Fellowship Impact

Before becoming Senior Project Manager of Grant Administration and Financial Management, Brandon worked as Manager of CRM and Investment Operations at a leading Private Equity firm. While gaining valuable exposure to capital markets, M&A processes, and ultimately driving change management in a large organization, Brandon knew a more active role in shaping Huntington and the surrounding region was the goal. Ultimately serving as an ambassador for low-income families and students coming from those types of backgrounds that aspire to be great.

Brandon’s experience with Generation West Virginia became a turning point.

Through the fellowship, Brandon found a network of young professionals making an impact all around the state, which provided him with the ability to see and understand that other future leaders cared just as much about the state they call home as he did. The program helped Brandon realize leadership potential and think bigger about long-term impact and more specifically how to improve the place he came from.

Today, Brandon regularly connects with other leaders moving and shaking things around his community and within the state, while being an active volunteer in community events, festivals and more. The Generation WV community continues to be a source of inspiration and encouragement, seeing other fellows achieve their dreams makes him want to work just as hard to achieve his own.

Brandon credits Generation West Virginia as a catalyst for growth, providing the confidence, connections, and perspective needed to lead boldly and invest in building a stronger opportunity funnel for our youth, allowing them to live the lives they want to lead without feeling like they need to move elsewhere to do so.

Looking Ahead...

Through his work with Mountwest and Generation WV, Brandon is helping create legitimate life-altering opportunities for both the youth and non-traditional students. Brandon is proud to play a role in the dynamic shift that is happening among the next generation who see more value in trade programs and apprenticeships, rather than traditional higher-ed routes. Brandon looks forward to building more programs and more advanced, inclusive environments in higher-ed, specifically at Mountwest and Marshall University that allow students the freedom to choose what they want to learn, who they want to be and what impact they want to make.
