USDA Rural Development

Job Description

This position is located in a USDA Rural Development (RD) State Office. The incumbent serves as a key member of the State Director’s staff and is responsible for encouraging greater use of community economic development(CED) practices in order to enhance the overall impact of RD investments, with the ultimate aim of creating stronger rural communities. Efforts to achieve this goal include but are not limited to:
  1. Encouraging and participating in CED planning with municipalities and regions
  2. Training staff and partners on CED principles and practices
  3. Promoting innovative and collaborative strategies for delivering RD’s technical and financial assistance programs
  4. Identifying opportunities to leverage USDA funding.

The incumbent is expected to coordinate his/her efforts with State and National RD staff and to develop strategic partnerships with other state agencies and organizations, local communities, nonprofit organizations, college and university rural economic development experts, and the private sector.

Duties

  • Meet, engage, and build relationships and strategies with federal and state organizations, local communities, business and nonprofit organizations, and private sector for long-term economic development.
  • Handles complex projects that cross multiple programs and multiple entities in the public, private and non-profit sectors.
  • Plan, develop, and deliver outreach presentations to interest groups such as state, community or economic development organizations, state, county and local organizations, lenders, and the like.
  • Perform moderate in-state travel for attendance at meetings, events, site visits, and trainings.
  • Serve as advisor to the State Director concerning rural issues within the state and represent Rural Development on various local, state, and federal groups and associations.
  • Facilitate information sharing among public and private sectors to increase awareness of loan and grant programs and incentives for business development in rural areas.

Conditions of Employment

Salary Range: GS-11 through GS-12 Salary Range is $72,553 – $113,047
