POSITION SUMMARY AND OBJECTIVE

The Training and Safety Coordinator ensures the coordination of Safety Training, Safety Equipment, and Safe work practices across the organization. This position also supports all Non-OJT staff with professional development. This position is a champion for creating a culture of safety and learning across the organization, with an emphasis on creating a learning environment for Non-OJT Staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Regular attendance is an essential function for all employees. We depend on our employees to show up, begin work and end work at the time their schedule indicates and whenever scheduled to work, aside from extenuating circumstances.
  • Legally and safely drive a vehicle to work sites.
  • Collaborates with leadership and safety partners to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Enforces site-specific safety plans and emergency action plans.
  • Coordinates safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
  • Ensures understanding of all risks and hazards throughout organization by coordinating and evaluating the safety program’s effectiveness to promote and ensure a safe working environment.
  • and implements the safety program to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Shares environmental safety information with appropriate levels in the organization.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Drug Free Workplace policy interpretation, administration, enforcement, and 2nd chance support.
  • Partners with relevant stakeholders, supervisors and staff to identify training needs and develop training plans.
  • Assists in the coordination of learning and development by coordinating with external vendors and service providers to ensure seamless delivery of learning and development programs. This may include scheduling and logistics, participant registration and confirmation, and tracking participation and completion.
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts to create training materials, including presentations, handouts, e-learning modules, and job aids; and to ensure training materials are accurate, engaging, and effective.
  • Implements & coordinates training sessions to employees in a variety of formats, including classroom instruction, webinars, and virtual training sessions.
  • Manages training budgets, vendors, and external training programs as needed
  • Measures and reports on the effectiveness of training programs to stakeholders
  • Ensures compliance with all training-related regulatory requirements.
  • Administers the Learning Management System software including, but not limited to, promoting self-select professional development, maintaining participant information, etc.
  • Keeps up to date with industry trends and best practices in learning and development.

COMPETENCY – KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge of company safety policies/processes and applicable Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Standards.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people, including employees, leaders, and external stakeholders. This includes strong listening skills, public speaking skills, and the ability to facilitate difficult conversations.
  • Have sound judgment regarding confidential information.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to learn Learning Management Software, HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) Software, and any other Software used by Coalfield Development Stakeholders, especially training software platforms.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, especially regarding safety and substance use, and the ability to ensure that the organization complies with all applicable laws.
  • Ability to adapt and pivot plans when necessary due to ever-changing organizational training needs.
  • Be approachable, empathetic, and able to build relationships.
  • Ability to analyze training data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement and use this information to develop effective training programs.

WORK LOCATION AND HOURS OF WORK

  • Office in Black Diamond Building 2923 Park Avenue Huntington, WV 25704
  • Coalfield Development operates on a Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM schedule.
  • Regular travel to Coalfield Development worksites for safety support and observation
    (Mingo County, Logan County, Wayne County, other counties as needed).
  • Coalfield allows exempt employees to request & use flextime.

ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Light lifting (up to 50 LBS with or without accommodation).
  • Must be able to work seated or standing at a desk and/or computer.
  • Must be able to stay on feet for extended periods of time (sometimes up to 8 hours) during training exercises.
  • Must be able to be exposed to all weather conditions, especially during training exercises.

TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must provide reliable transportation to their primary work location and other locations as required. Travel expenses (excluding commutes) may be reimbursed per Coalfield’s policies and procedures. Coalfield has a limited fleet of vehicles and frequently carpools to minimize travel burdens on employees. A valid driver’s license and annual completion of our drivers safety course is required in order to drive a Coalfield vehicle.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Associate’s degree in safety or related field
  • At least 2 years of experience in safety or related field
  • At least 2 years of experience in training facilitation or related field

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety or related field
  • 2-4 years of experience in safety
  • 2-4 years of experience in training facilitation or related field
