The Preserve WV AmeriCorps member will be serving with Arthurdale Heritage to complete a survey project of the Arthurdale National Historic District. This project involves completing a total resurvey of the Arthurdale Historic District that was started by a previous AmeriCorps member.
The last survey filed for the district was completed in 1989, the goal of this project is to understand how many of the original historic houses are extant and the conditions of each dwelling. In addition to documenting the historic homes, this survey also aims to document the new development in the Arthurdale District. A Preserve WV AmeriCorps began this survey in January 2022 and has completed about ⅔ of it, leaving about ⅓ of the survey left for the incoming service member to complete. The member will also be required to submit the paperwork to the WVSHPO for review and respond to any feedback from that agency.
The Preserve WV AmeriCorps member will serve approximately 20 hours per week primarily on-site at AHI headquarters in Arthurdale with some remote service time allowed. Daily tasks will involve:
The member should be a self-starter, able to work independently, and motivated. They should also have a basic understanding of the WV Historic Property Inventory form, an understanding of architectural vocabulary, an understanding of WV SHPO requirements, and technical skills needed to operate the Filemaker database.
Members’ qualified student loans can be deferred during AmeriCorps service, with the accumulated loan interest paid by AmeriCorps at the end of the deferred period.
