JOB TITLE: VISTA Education Coordinator 

JOB DESCRIPTION 

The VISTA Education Coordinator will assist with creating content to support our STEAM (Science,  Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education initiatives, with a specific focus on  Appalachian women and places. This role involves conducting research, developing educational content,  and writing materials for our STEAM activity boxes for elementary-age students. Other tasks will include  planning, coordinating, and fundraising for our STEAM Exploration Program in WV schools, participating  in team meetings, and collaborating with Libera staff on projects. This position is key to carrying out our  vision to build a brighter future for youth and young women in WV, so they are free to achieve their  dreams. 

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Conduct thorough research on Appalachian women who have made significant  contributions and accomplishments in their field, and especially those in STEAM  fields 
  • Research Appalachian regions and their natural resources, outdoor opportunities, and unique  features 
  • Create age-appropriate lesson plans and activities that align with STEAM education and WV  curriculum standards 
  • Develop hands-on STEAM activities that encourage learning and experimentation
  • Create and manage a library of content for current and future subscription boxes and related activities 
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to develop innovative ideas for educational materials and box  themes  
  • Engage with educators, parents, and community members to gather feedback and continuously  improve the content and impact of our educational materials 
  • Collaborate with educators and subject matter experts to develop STEAM-focused curriculum and  educational materials 
  • Develop STEAM Exploration Program to be led in Elementary Schools and coordinate program with participating schools
  • Outreach to businesses, foundations, and individuals about sponsoring the program in schools
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism  
  • Perform other duties as assigned  
  • Complete all VISTA reporting and requirements as required by AmeriCorps VISTA and WV’s Promise 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent  
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred 
  • Creative thinker with a willingness to learn and take direction 
  • Meticulous attention to detail 
  • Works well independently and in a team environment  
  • Excellent written communication skills with a creative and engaging writing style suitable for children
  • Experience in curriculum development and educational content creation 
  • Strong research skills with the ability to collect and synthesize information from diverse sources
  • Passion for promoting STEAM education, outdoor exploration, and healthy living
  • Knowledge of Appalachian culture, geography, and history is a plus 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Must be willing to travel on a weekly and/or monthly basis across WV 
  • Some weekend or evening hours may be required based on timing of events
  • Required to complete Libera Listener Training, a background check, and suicide prevention training
  • Location: Remote/Morgantown, WV. Candidates must be willing to travel to Morgantown 2-4 times  per month. Preference will be given to local candidates. 

VISTA BENEFITS 

  • VISTA Bi-Weekly Living Allowance (full 14 days of service) =$877.66 = Yearly total estimate $22,882- (Before Taxes)
